Dr. Dugald Seely

Dugald Seely_OICC - PhotoDugald Seely ND, MSc, is a naturopathic doctor, researcher and administrator who has contributed to research on naturopathic medicine relevant to its application and evolution. Dr. Seely also plays a lead role in developing the field of integrative oncology practice and research.

Dr. Seely serves as the executive director of research & clinical epidemiology at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine and is an affiliate investigator for the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Dr. Seely has been awarded over 10 million dollars in competitive grant and trainee funding and has led numerous clinical studies including most recently, the largest randomized integrative cancer care trial in North America. In addition to clinical research, Dr. Seely has conducted and supervised dozens of synthesis reviews and meta-analyses including an extensive investigation funded by the US based Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Through work with Canada Post, Dr. Seely led the conduct of a series of pragmatic randomized clinical trials exploring the impact of naturopathic medicine on important health outcomes as well as demonstrating societal benefits and cost-effectiveness.

Dr. Seely completed his MSc in cancer research at the University of Toronto and is a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology. Dr. Seely is also a section editor for Integrative Oncology of the Journal Current Oncology and board member for the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Past board member for the Society of Integrative Oncology, Dr. Seely was appointed to Health Canada’s Expert Advisory Panel for the Vigilance of Health Products. Dr. Seely has published over 60 peer reviewed papers including more than 50 of which that are Medline indexed. Dr. Seely continues to publish and presents at medical conferences around the world.

As founder and executive director of the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre (OICC), Dr. Seely is pioneering and testing a contemporary cancer treatment model based on the application of scientifically grounded, evidence-informed complementary medicine. With the first integrative cancer care and research centre in Eastern Canada, Dr. Seely and his team provide whole-person integrative care to people living with cancer and address research gaps in whole-systems cancer care. Dr. Seely believes in the ability of evidence-based medicine to effect positive change in the health-care system and is actively building on this base. Dr. Seely ultimately seeks to shift our current model of cancer care towards a more proactive, whole-person model espoused by integrative oncology.
