October 2, 2019 – European Naturopathic Research Strategy Meeting, Lyon, France

WNF’s first Research Strategy Meeting was held October 2nd, 2019 in Lyon, France. The meeting was organized and facilitated by Australia’s Dr. Amie Steel, ND MPH PHD. Joining her were Distinguished Professor Jon Adams, MA PHD, and Cherie Caut, ND BHSC(NAT) HONS MRMED. Aesculape Naturopathic School welcomed representatives from WNF’s European members.

The goal was to bring together naturopathic professionals and academic leaders to strengthen naturopathic research, identify researchers and consider future steps in Europe.

Thank you to our research experts for making the long trip from Australia, to WNF’s European members for sending their key professionals and to Aesculape Naturopathic School for hosting.

Today’s meeting was an important step in uniting the naturopathic profession – embracing research and traditional knowledge is happening!

January 1, 2019 – Thanks to the support of our members, 2018 was quite a year for the WNF:

  • We now have 72 members / sponsors – a growth of 47%
  • Exceeded our 2-year goal of 30 Full Members in just one year to currently 32 full members
  • Increased Educational members by 66% to 15 members
  • Published:​
    • The WNF Education Committee’s Recommended Minimum Standards for Naturopathic Education
    • Global Naturopathic Regulation, documenting the breadth and depth of naturopathic regulation worldwide
    • A set of Professional Development Tools to assist new associations, including: Bylaws template; Professional Organization Guide; Self-Governance Guide
    • A list of research resources for the naturopathic profession on the WNF website
    • A draft of a WNF Naturopathic Terminology document
    • A list of online links to WNF Educational Members’ courses and other educational resources on the private members area of the WNF website
    • Translation of several WNF documents in different languages – all now posted to the website
    • Over ten WNF articles were published in various naturopathic journals around the globe
  • Laid the foundation for a strong working relationship with the World Health Organization by:
    • Taking the lead on the Intra-Professional Collaboration survey that went out to over 700 T&CM organizations from nine professions. The preliminary results were presented at the WHA 2018.
    • Providing feedback, along with many of our members, to the Draft Declaration Towards Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals. This resulted in both a change in the final wording of the Declaration and an invitation for the WNF to attend the Global Conference on Primary Health Care in Kazakhstan.
    • Addressing one of three WHO designated health crises through our AMR Call-to-Action campaign
  • Initiated three key naturopathic projects in preparation for the Health Technology Assessment on Naturopathic Profession:
    • Conducted the International Naturopathic Practice Survey with fourteen full member countries participating
    • Compiled and analyzed over 2,000 published research articles done by naturopathic researchers
    • Compiled and analyzed a comprehensive list of books (over 1000) by naturopathic practitioners
  • Represented the naturopathic profession at:
    • Six naturopathic conferences / meetings – Brazil, Mexico, Toronto, Portugal, Slovenia and the United States
    • The 2018 World Health Assembly (WHA), Geneva Switzerland
    • The WHO working group on global standards for cupping, Jinan China
    • The Global Conference on Primary Health Care (PHC), Astana Kazakhstan
    • The WHO working group on global standards for Anthroposophic Medicine in Berlin Germany
  • Strengthened local connections by:
    • Holding two face-to-face meetings, one with representatives from Latin America and the other from Europe
    • Responded to letters of request from El Salvador, Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil, Belgium and Portugal
    • Established an Education Committee to share curriculum resources amongst WNF Educational members
  • Began the groundwork for an informative and important General Assembly to be held in Melbourne, Australia March 27 & 28th, 2019 which we hope you will attend.

July 11-12, 2017 – Representatives from fourteen countries spanning six world regions attended the General Assembly in Phoenix Arizona, USA. June 3rd, 2017 – WNF President, Dr. Iva Lloyd, ND will be presenting at the 2nd European Naturopathic Congress in Madrid on the Steps to Collaboration Between the World Health Organization and the WNF.

May 22nd – 26th, 2017 – The WNF President and Vice-President (Dr. Iva Lloyd, ND and Tina Hausser, Heilpraktiker, Naturopath) along with Jon Wardle, Secretariat of the WNF will be representing the WNF at the World Health Assembly in Geneva Switzerland and will be meeting with representatives from the World Health Organization.

April 1st, 2017 – WNF Secretary Barb Boutry, Naturopath will be representing the WNF at the 2nd Naturopathic Congress in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The title of the Congress is Diabetes and Naturopathy.

March 25th & 26th, 2017 – WNF Vice President, Tina Hausser, Heilpraktiker, Naturopath represented the WNF and presented at the Congresso Internacional de Naturopatía e Fitoterapia in Lisboa, Portugal. March 17th – 19th, 2017 – WNF Secretariat Dr. Jon Wardle, Naturopath, PhD represented the WNF at the 2017 International Congress on Herbal Medicine in Queensland, Australia.

December 2016 – Naturopath-Naturopathic Doctor Q&A published.

October 1st, 2016 – WNF 4th Quarter 2016 Update published

September 28th, 2016 – Consultation on Question and Answer document on naturopathy / naturopathic doctor was open for consultation. Closing date is November 15th, 2016.

September 23rd – 26th, 2016 – Naturopathic professionals met in Paris this week to work together towards educational and professional standards for the naturopathic profession in Europe. The goal is to unify the naturopathic profession in Europe with standards adjusted to the EQF (European Qualification Framework) and the current WHO Benchmark of Naturopathy.

September 23rd 2016 – Associação Portuguesa de Naturopatia (APNA) requested support from WNF on their efforts for VAT exemption. On September 23rd the government in Portugal announces that all non-conventional activities (Naturopathy, Acupuncture, Herbal medicine) are exempt from paying VAT! Click here for more information.

August 2016 – Iva Lloyd represents the WNF at the ESSNQ Symposium in Quebec, Canada.

July 2016 – WNF 3rd Quarter 2016 Update published

July 2016 – The WNF sends welcoming letter to the The School of Yoga and Naturopathic Medicine (SVYASA), University Bengalura for their Naturopathy Fest – AEON 2016 program.

June 2016 – The 2nd WNF Executive Council meeting is held in Stuttgart Germany.

June 2016 – Iva Lloyd and Tina Hausser represent the WNF at the International Congress on Integrative Health & Medicine (ICIHM) in Stuttgart Germany.

May 4th, 2016 – WNF Delegates Attended the World Health Assembly: The President (Dr. Iva Lloyd, ND) and the Vice-President (Tina Hausser, Heilkpraktiker) of the WNF, along with the Co-Secretary Generals – naturopathic doctors Jon Wardle and Tabatha Parker represented the WNF at the WHO’s 69th World Health Assembly in Geneva Switzerland from May 23rd to 27th. During meetings with Dr. Zhang Qi (head of Traditional and Complementary Medicine for the WHO) the WNF receives confirmation from WHO that they will start the process of official collaboration.
